Why did you get involved with serving nonprofit organizations?
Growing up in Appalachia, I saw how opportunities were unevenly distributed, particularly in regard to education and gender inequality. This contrast left a lasting impression on me—I knew early on that I wanted to use my career to bridge these kinds of gaps. Working in the nonprofit sector allows me to channel my skills into causes that uplift communities, advocate for equity, and empower people to build a better future.
Why did you join Benefactor Group?
I was introduced to Benefactor Group through a professional connection who spoke highly of their experience with the team. As I learned more about Benefactor Group, I was struck by how the organization’s mission aligned with my own values: to serve those who serve the common good. Benefactor Group’s commitment to supporting nonprofits across sectors and helping them achieve transformative change deeply resonates with me. I knew this was a team I wanted to contribute to—a place where I could amplify my impact on the communities and causes I care about.
What inspires you to serve the common good?
Nonprofit organizations are catalysts for meaningful change, and having seen their transformative power, I am inspired to support their missions. I believe my strengths lie in storytelling—helping to share a brand’s story in a way that connects people and drives action. Working with Benefactor Group allows me to do this on a larger scale by sharing the incredible services Benefactor Group offers that amplify the work of countless organizations.
We are living in rapidly changing times – which extends to the philanthropic landscape. What gives hope for the future of philanthropy over the next five years?
The rapid changes we’ve seen over the past few years remind us of philanthropy’s essential role in addressing urgent challenges. I am hopeful that the philanthropic community will continue to come together to tackle injustices. With new generations at the forefront bringing fresh perspectives and a strong desire to drive positive change, I believe we’re at a pivotal point in our history. Additionally, burgeoning technology offers exciting possibilities for reshaping how we engage with and support nonprofits. I believe that, as the sector evolves, we’ll see new ways of working that amplify impact and bring people together around shared values.
What influences how you give, volunteer, or advocate.
My values around service were shaped early in life by personal experiences and my environment. These influences drive me to focus on causes I connect with deeply, particularly in education and social equity. I believe giving includes time, talent, and treasure—whether mentoring young professionals, participating on a DEIAB committee, or making contributions to causes that matter. My motivation is rooted in my past, but it’s the vision of a more equitable future that guides how I serve.
If you could make a $1 million gift to any organization, where would you direct your contributions and why?
If I had the opportunity to make a $1 million gift, I would invest in organizations focused on expanding access to education and uplifting marginalized communities, especially for women and people of color. Education is a powerful tool for breaking cycles of inequality, creating opportunities, and strengthening communities. Supporting resources, safe spaces, and mentorship programs for these groups not only fosters individual growth but promotes long-term societal change. Empowering individuals who are often pushed to the margins can transform lives and build a stronger, more equitable future.
Where can someone find you when you’re not at work?
When I’m not working, you will likely find me flipping through pages in a reading nook with my cat or exploring new places in Columbus and beyond with my husband. I’m also a craft enthusiast with a small collection of ongoing projects: knitting, crocheting, painting, tending to my plants, and more.
What are you currently reading, or what do you recommend?
For enjoyment, I’m reading The Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkien, immersing myself in a story where good triumphs over evil in a fantastical world. For reflection, I’m reading Pachinko by Min Jin Lee—a powerful historical novel that follows a Korean family navigating life after immigrating to Japan, highlighting themes of resilience and identity. For professional inspiration, I’ve recently picked up Mastering Community by Christine Porath, which explores the essential role thriving communities play in our well-being and in creating successful organizations.
