Summers Hammel, CFRE

Summers is a trusted advisor to nonprofit leaders and governing boards, guiding organizations through complex fundraising initiatives, organizational development, and strategic growth. She leads the firm’s capacity-building practice, helping clients strengthen internal systems, leadership structures, and philanthropic strategies to support long-term sustainability and impact.  

Her work includes organization-wide fundraising assessments, campaign planning and execution for projects with seven- to ten-figure fundraising goals, and high-impact development strategies. Her portfolio spans the arts and culture, health, human services, and education sectors, where she equips mission-driven organizations with the insight, discipline, and tools needed to thrive. 

Summers serves on the Programs and Education Committee of the Giving Institute, contributing to the advancement of professional standards and continuing education in nonprofit consultancy. She holds the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential and brings strong project management expertise to complex, multi-stakeholder engagements. Prior to joining Benefactor Group, she worked in nonprofit development and grants strategy and managed high-profile, grant-funded initiatives at a Boston-based think tank, collaborating with international leaders in foreign policy, global security, and international affairs. A graduate of Boston College, she is based in Denver, Colorado.
