Giving USA 2025 Infographic: 2024 Fair Conditions for Giving

It’s here! Giving USA 2025: The Annual Report on Philanthropy©, the longest running, most comprehensive report on philanthropy in America.

The report presents data from 2024, offering a clear picture of how generosity thrives when the conditions are right. This year’s theme, “Fair Conditions for Giving,” reflects a key finding: charitable giving increased by 6.3% to $592.5B in current dollars—the highest annual growth since 2021.
In 2024, Individuals continued to lead, contributing 66% of total giving. Foundations followed at 19%, with Corporations and Bequests rounding out the rest.
In current dollars, giving in 2024 increased for every philanthropic sector. In inflation-adjusted dollars, giving to religion decreased. Public-Society Benefit, International Affairs, and Education led with double-digit increases.
It’s a good time to invest in monthly giving. Monthly and recurring gifts accounted for 31% of online revenue in 2024, up 5%. By contract, one-time gifts did not increase.
Positive economic factors encourage campaign donors to make multi-year pledges. With uncertain conditions, tactics such as a non-binding “intent to give” are preferred.
$18T will flow from estates to causes in the next 20+ years. Nonprofits will be wise to place these windfalls into endowment. If the full amount were endowed, the annual draw would exceed all giving in 2024.
Nonprofit staffing challenges continue. In 2024, nearly 3 out of 4 nonprofits had vacancies. Not surprisingly, 3 out of 10 reported longer waits for services.
Mid-level donors demonstrate deep loyalty to their favorite causes. Among donors who gave between $1,000 and $9,999 to a single organization, 89% were likely to give again in the next 12 months.
Nonprofits believe AI can boost productivity, but use varies. Larger nonprofits adopt AI at twice the rate of smaller organizations. Top uses include grant writing, fundraising, marketing, and donor engagement.
In 2024, the estimated worth of a volunteer hour climbed to $34.79, reminding us that time is one of the most valuable gifts a supporter can offer.
Growing gaps in wealth are reflected in giving. The top 50 donors gave $16.2B in 2024, up from $11.9B. 📈 At the same time, gifts from micro donors, small donors, and mid-size donors declined by 8/9%, 4.3%, and 0.7%, respectively. 📉
