Today marks the 2021 release of Giving USA: The Annual Report on Philanthropy©, the longest running, most comprehensive report on philanthropy in America.

2020 was perhaps the most uncommon year in the history of Giving USA. Charitable contributions increased 5% to $471.44B. Three of four giving sources saw increases, with Foundation giving up 17%. Seven of nine sectors grew, while giving to health and to arts/culture/humanities declined. The uneven 2020 economy saw a shrink in GDP, yet the S&P 500 grew 16.3%.

Our ninth annual infographic pays tribute to local restaurants and other small businesses that struggled in 2020.
