Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access, and Belonging

We serve those who serve the common good.

There is no “common good” without diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging. Different perspectives generate creativity, invention, and better outcomes for our clients and our world. When those with diverse lived experiences have access to greater power and influence, we all thrive.

To fulfill our mission, we commit—individually and collectively—to promote and support these values within our firm, the philanthropic sector, and our communities.

This is an ever-evolving journey. For us, it begins with these steps.

01

Create a workplace where individuals of all backgrounds, especially those from historically and currently marginalized communities, are represented, heard, and positioned to contribute and lead.

Where diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging are embedded in our policies, practices, professional development, and actions. And where everyone in the organization shares responsibility and accountability for upholding these values.

To accomplish this, we pledge to actively recruit and celebrate diverse identities and perspectives. To ensure ongoing DEIAB education and training for all team members. To create resources, in print and online, that are inclusive and easily accessible. And to cultivate a safe environment that welcomes and respects all voices and opinions.

02

Promote increased diversity across the nonprofit sector, from advancement offices to executive leadership teams to boardrooms.

To accomplish this, we pledge to sponsor, develop, and disseminate thought leadership that highlights sector-wide barriers and solutions. To contribute our time and resources to industry-wide initiatives, such as New Faces in Philanthropy. And to encourage and challenge our client partners to commit to tangible DEIAB goals.

03

Enable our staff to advocate personally for diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging in the communities where we live, work, and play.

To accomplish this, our employees can give—our time, talent, treasure, and testimony—to nonprofits and civic organizations advancing these values. To speak personally against systems, institutions, prejudices, and biases that uphold harmful patterns of behavior.

04

Use our platform as a small business to promote the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging.

To accomplish this, we pledge to engage clients and vendors that align with our values. To speak, as a business, in favor of legislation, causes, and organizations that create a more just and equitable society. And to financially support DEIAB causes through a match of employee contributions.

We acknowledge that philanthropy, throughout history, has stemmed from and benefitted from privilege and inequity. We recognize that today, wealth and income inequality continue to perpetuate troubling power dynamics in our sector and our world.

But we also believe that philanthropy, at its best—when rooted in diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging— enriches our communities, powers important movements, and advances the common good. We commit to build on what is best about philanthropy and work toward that better world.
