The Ohio Association of Independent Schools (OAIS) sought the expertise of Benefactor Group to facilitate an executive transition and assist in the search for a new leader following the announcement of retirement by its long-time executive director. Recognizing the significance of this transition, OAIS engaged Benefactor Group to lead a strategic process that would help the board define the competencies, skills, and goals desired in the organization’s next executive leader.
Throughout this planning period, OAIS was encouraged to think critically and innovatively about its leadership search. The discussions emphasized the importance of identifying a candidate with not only a robust educational background but also a strong political acumen. This shift in focus aimed to ensure that the next executive could navigate the complexities of advocacy and policy making in the education sector, thus enhancing the association’s influence and effectiveness.
Benefactor Group facilitated workshops and discussions that allowed board members to reflect on the evolving needs of OAIS and the broader educational landscape. Through this collaborative effort, the board was able to articulate a clear vision for the qualities and experiences they sought in a new leader.
Following the strategic planning phase, Benefactor Group conducted a national search for candidates, leveraging our extensive network and resources to identify individuals with the right blend of expertise and experience. The search yielded a strong pool of candidates, enabling the search committee to select a highly qualified leader with a proven track record as an elected state official. This new executive brought with them a wealth of knowledge and a passion for education, positioning OAIS for continued success in advocating for independent schools across Ohio.
