Campaign Planning and Foundation Development

Creating a Fundraising Foundation
Prior to the campaign effort, CRPD engaged Benefactor Group in 2012 to explore private funding opportunities to support the city’s parks, recreation facilities, and programs. Our consultants conducted interviews, performed benchmarking research, and assessed findings to inform a strategy for establishing a new fundraising foundation. Benefactor Group provided structure and guidance to the foundation planning process, developing a three-year development plan, preliminary budget, CEO job description, board matrix, committee roles, and organizational chart. We also drafted foundational governance documents and policies, helping CRPD lay the groundwork for a sustainable and impactful fundraising foundation.

In 2014, Columbus Recreation and Parks Department (CRPD) re-engaged Benefactor Group to design and implement a $5 million campaign to support the completion of the new Linden Center for Opportunity and enhance key programs and services. Benefactor Group structured the project into three phases: a campaign planning study, a comprehensive campaign operating plan, and the establishment of a fundraising foundation to implement the plan. Our consultants conducted interviews, reported findings and recommendations, and created a detailed campaign plan—including budgeting, professional services, branding and marketing strategies, event planning, and donor recognition. We also assisted with the development of founding documents, bylaws, policies, and board and executive selection, while coaching staff on marketing and fundraising best practices.
