Children’s Hunger Alliance

Children’s Hunger Alliance (CHA) is dedicated to providing access to healthy food, nutrition education, and physical activity for children across Ohio. In collaboration with the American Dairy Association Mideast and Ohio Action for Healthy Children, CHA initiated the Healthy Kids, Healthy Schools program, targeting middle-school-aged children to combat childhood obesity. While CHA enjoyed generous corporate support, the organization sought to expand its philanthropic reach beyond Central Ohio and cultivate a new corps of donors to secure additional resources for its ongoing programs. The organization set an ambitious goal of raising $6 million over five years for the Healthy Kids, Healthy Schools initiative.

To support CHA’s fundraising efforts, Benefactor Group conducted a comprehensive internal and external assessment to evaluate potential support for this collaborative initiative. Based on the findings, we developed a strategic fundraising plan aimed at engaging various constituencies throughout the state. This plan incorporated tactics to build an individual giving program, enhancing CHA’s capacity to reach its financial goals.

During this process, the Vice President of External Affairs departed from CHA. To ensure continuity in leadership and the implementation of the fundraising plan, Benefactor Group placed a senior consultant as CHA’s interim Vice President of Development. This consultant oversaw the development office and facilitated the execution of the fundraising strategy until a permanent replacement was successfully hired in late 2011. Through this partnership, CHA was well-positioned to advance its mission and achieve its ambitious fundraising targets.
