In early 2022, Central State University, an 1890 land-grant institution and one of the oldest Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the U.S., engaged Benefactor Group to conduct a campaign feasibility study. The University had experienced early success with a capital campaign aligned with new priorities established under the leadership of Dr. Jack Thomas, who joined Central State in 2020.To support their efforts, Benefactor Group’s study aimed to provide University leaders with essential data and insights to develop a comprehensive strategy for advancing the campaign. The findings will guide the University in effectively navigating its fundraising initiatives and achieving its goals for future growth and sustainability.
In 2023, following the hiring of a new Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Central State University re-engaged with the University-affiliated Foundation in a more meaningful way. To strengthen this relationship, Benefactor Group facilitated an in-person retreat and four virtual sessions with Foundation board members, University Trustees, and development staff. The objectives were to establish best practices for Foundation governance and enhance Foundation-University relations, equipping board members to become informed and enthusiastic ambassadors and fundraisers for the University. This collaborative effort is essential for fostering a strong fundraising culture and maximizing support for the institution’s mission.
