Ohio Association of County Boards

The Ohio Association of County Boards (OACB) serves as a vital trade association, providing advocacy, technical assistance, professional development, and communication to county boards of developmental disabilities across Ohio. Representing 88 diverse county boards, OACB plays a crucial role in addressing the unique needs and challenges faced by these organizations.

In November 2023, OACB engaged Benefactor Group to facilitate the development of a comprehensive three-year strategic plan aimed at guiding both the association and the county board system into the future. Understanding the importance of a collaborative approach, Benefactor Group conducted a series of individual interviews and focus groups with key stakeholders, including trustees, staff, and association members. Surveys were also employed to gather insights and perspectives from a broader audience, ensuring that the voices of all stakeholders were heard.

The discovery findings from these activities were instrumental in shaping critical conversations during a full-day strategic planning retreat with OACB’s trustees and staff. The retreat provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions about the future direction of the association and the county board system, allowing participants to explore various priorities and objectives.

Following the retreat, Benefactor Group worked closely with a dedicated group of association trustees and staff leadership to refine the strategic plan’s priorities, objectives, measures, and projects. The finalized plan was presented and approved by the association’s full board in July 2024, marking a significant milestone in OACB’s efforts to enhance its impact and effectiveness.

Benefactor Group remained engaged with OACB, providing support and guidance as the association implemented the new strategic plan. This collaboration was focused on ensuring that the priorities set forth in the plan are translated into actionable initiatives that would strengthen the county board system and better serve individuals with developmental disabilities across Ohio.
