Haggai International’s mission is to equip and inspire leaders in communities around the world to effectively demonstrate and present the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Facing declining revenue and a bold goal to expand its reach, Haggai International sought Benefactor Group’s expertise to elevate its fundraising efforts.
In 2023, Benefactor Group began working with Haggai International by conducting a philanthropic assessment focused on building a robust individual major giving program and establishing a pipeline of prospective donors. The assessment involved interviews with staff and external stakeholders, including donors and current and past board members. It also included an internal evaluation of fundraising infrastructure and processes, case studies of peer organizations, donor capacity and affinity screening, and revenue analysis. The capacity screening was particularly beneficial, providing Haggai International with a clearer understanding of the potential within its existing donor base.
Following the assessment, Benefactor Group delivered a comprehensive development plan. This plan outlined a multi-year model for contributed revenue growth, a recommended fundraising staffing structure, and strategies for optimal fundraising across all revenue sources. It included targeted strategies for major giving, middle giving, broad-based giving, institutional giving, and events, along with clear steps to optimize portfolio assignments for engaging donors at appropriate levels.
In 2024, Haggai International invited Benefactor Group to assist in implementing the recommendations from the development plan. This project involved operationalizing the plan’s recommendations, including detailed prospect management processes such as assigning prospects to portfolios, conducting portfolio review meetings, and training the advancement team on new system processes. Additionally, Benefactor Group project-managed the implementation of a new online giving system later in 2024.
Haggai International’s advancement leaders report that they regularly reference the development plan and revenue model, feeling well prepared to move forward with the long-range strategies outlined in the plan.
