Wilmington College’s mission is to educate, inspire, and prepare each student for a life of service and success, shaped by the traditions of the liberal arts, career preparation, and the distinctive practices of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). Long a champion of agricultural and rural life issues, Wilmington College not only teaches the business of farming but also empowers students to become advocates for their farms and communities.
Benefactor Group first began working with Wilmington College in 2019 as the college started planning for a major campaign. In 2020, we conducted a campaign planning study to assess the appeal, potential leadership, and available philanthropic resources for a proposed $45 million campaign. Benefactor Group conducted 16 individual interviews, facilitated two discussion groups, and prepared a comprehensive internal readiness report.
Based on the findings, Benefactor Group recommended that Wilmington College plan for a renewed comprehensive campaign with a provisional goal of $45 million, while focusing on refining its case, strengthening its internal operations, elevating annual giving, and using the presidential search to engage donors and prospects.
Following the study, Benefactor Group prepared a campaign plan for Together We Rise, the Campaign for Wilmington College. We also conducted a major gift portfolio analysis, meeting with major gift officers and advancement leaders to evaluate portfolio size and composition, enhance donor engagement strategies, and refine prospect identification and qualification processes. Additionally, Benefactor Group provided interim services by placing an Interim Vice President for College Advancement to fill a vacated position.
Throughout the campaign’s duration, Benefactor Group offered counsel, coaching college leaders, participating in strategy meetings, and assisting the advancement office in improving its infrastructure and processes. Together We Rise concluded in June 2023, exceeding its $45 million goal by 9%.
