The Plains Art Museum, blessed with a superbly renovated turn-of-the-century warehouse location at the heart of historic downtown Fargo, received an anonymous challenge gift to create an endowment for contemporary art. When their campaign stalled, Benefactor Group was engaged to conduct an intense mid-campaign assessment. As a result, Counsel organized a highly focused $5.5 million comprehensive campaign. In partnership with Fargo Public Schools, the goal is a state-of-the-art teaching studio annex and interactive gallery, a showcase for the celebrated work of North Dakota artist James Rosenquist, and robust visitor services, operating endowment, and annual giving for programs. Counsel has also worked vigorously with board and administrative leaders to refine staffing and enhance volunteer participation.
