Franklin Park Conservatory is a cherished Columbus institution, first welcoming the community in 1852 as the site of the Franklin County Fair. The iconic Victorian glass greenhouses, now known as the John F. Wolfe Palm House and Dorothy M. Davis Showhouse, opened in 1895, transforming into a social hub that expanded the horticultural horizons of Ohioans and reflected the commitment of city leaders to enhance the beauty of Columbus.
Today, the Conservatory attracts over 350,000 visitors annually, featuring lush indoor and outdoor gardens, a celebrated children’s garden, and a vibrant community garden and farmer’s market. It serves as a beloved event venue and educational center.
Benefactor Group first collaborated with Franklin Park Conservatory in 2012, conducting a board workshop focused on developing a culture of philanthropy.
In 2022, as Central Ohio projected rapid population growth, the Conservatory initiated a master planning process to engage with the community. This feedback led to the creation of the North Star Master Plan, outlining a 25-year vision to significantly enhance the Conservatory’s impact, with a strong emphasis on elevated horticultural and garden experiences. To realize this vision, the Conservatory proposed a major $175 million fundraising campaign.
Between June and August 2024, Benefactor Group worked with Franklin Park Conservatory to assess the feasibility of the $175 million campaign for Phase I of the North Star Master Plan. Consultants conducted 26 interviews, facilitated a discussion group with the Executive Committee, and surveyed the Board of Directors.
Following the delivery of the study findings, Franklin Park Conservatory continued its partnership with Benefactor Group, engaging the firm to develop a campaign plan, a campaign case for support, and to provide counsel throughout all phases of the campaign.
