Samira Colbert

Samira Colbert (they/them)  is a Black Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies student attending Denison University in Granville, Ohio.  Samira has a passion for social justice, and tries to balance that passion in academia as well as everyday and professional life.  

While attending Shaker Heights High School, Samira got introduced to the world of community organizing, and the non-profit sector. At Shaker, Samira joined the Student Group on Race Relations (SGORR) where they became a core member, and later, the co-director of the operations committee. After Samira’s tenure with SGORR, they became a fellow with the Ohio Organizing Collaborative. While there, Samira worked with the Cleveland branch of the 2018 Safe and Healthy Ohio ballot initiative.   

Prior to interning with the Benefactor Group, Samira was an intern with the Ohio Student’s Association, where they helped create digital content for the Coalition to End the Inhumanity at the Cuyahoga County Jail.

As a student, Samira is a member of the rugby team, and is the Chapter Coordinator for the Denison University chapter of the Ohio Student’s Association. After graduation, Samira hopes to take a gap year and travel the country with their wife.
